Concept Map: Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event

This concept map was a process piece as I began to learn about the Ordovician Period in Geological history in order to create a mini-museum in the University of Dayton's Geology Department.

Intention: To formally illustrate my thought process and understanding of the organization of concepts within the Ordovician Period of history.

Inspiration: As a designer, I put a strong emphasis on the connection between ideas.
"It is often the connection that provides the key to the solution" - Charles Eames

Origin of choices: The choice to use circles and clusters was strategic to give the feeling of both life and cyclical interconnectedness. Raised panels and string are used as a hierarchical system to show which points and connections are the strongest.

Medium: Physical connections: Four pieces of embroidery floss twisted together. Individually cut out raised circles spray mounted to foam core-mounted print.
